Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"I came here, as I was advised this is one of the better Indonesian restaurants in Kuala Lumpur. Not disappointed at all. I loved the beef empal, which is basically sliced beef cooked in some sauce, though do NOT confuse it with beef rendang. The sambal was incredible, with shrimp paste & lime. Though I wasn't full, I ordered more food, ordered Nasi Goreng (Indonesian style fried rice) which came with an omelette, and I ordered chicken breast, cooked to perfection and the chicken was tender and was easy to pull off. I understand Indonesian food is generally dry and not saucy, as it gets cooked to the point where the water is almost fully evaporated, unlike the Indian food that I'm accustomed to, so this kind of cuisine you would have to come prepared knowingly what to expect. My bill came to 44 Ringet, and I ate for two, I forced the second serving down my throat, it was that good."
"They definitely have 20plus sambal. All was ok except for the ikan bawal goreng was bit 'hanyir'. Ask for a simple lime to squeeze but was denied. Would I come again? Maybe."
"I was craving for Indo food so my friends brought me here. And I must say that the food was EXCELLENT!!! Yaampun It was sooo good I was really happy and satisfied! As a vegetarian, there were some good options. Like the tofu and tempeh bakar, it was really marinated well and so flavourful, the soup was just bursting with flavours too! It’s like sour, sweet and a hint of spice. However you got to be careful with the spice, it can get really spicy! So remember to tell them to make it less spicy. Anyhow, I can’t wait to come back! Eeps!"
"Special Sambal TTDI is a great spot for those craving authentic Indonesian flavors. They offer a variety of Indonesian dishes paired with their signature special sambal, which brings a bold, spicy kick that truly stands out. The sambal is well balanced rich, fragrant, and a perfect match for their dishes. While the current menu is already enjoyable, there’s room for improvement by expanding the variety of dishes and sambal types. Adding more classic Indonesian specialties and a wider selection of sambals would not only cater to different spice preferences but also make the dining experience more exciting for repeat customers. Overall, if you’re looking for a taste of Indonesia in TTDI, this place delivers and with a few more menu options, it could easily become a go to destination for Indonesian food lovers."
"Amazing sambals The only problem here is the parking. The smoke grill duck was good. The aroma block out the duck smell. Just when the meat is cold ,the meat can be quite tough to chew. Serving may take around +-20min during peak hours. Love the air asem . Its not that sour. Just mild. Total damage was around rm91. 2 sets of rice together with drinks. Air asem , 5 mix sambals, pecel and a plate of 1/4 duck thigh order separately. the 5 sambal were sambal belacan sambal hati ayam sambal bilis sambal bawang another one i dont know how describe. All spicy but toleratable level."
"Love the foods, I cannot take spicy sambal so I ordered the sambal hijau and it was sweet. But my favourite is cendawan goreng and tauhu tempe mix bakar, their normal tempe are nice too but some of it has an unpleasant, musty flavour with a lingering aftertaste. Honestly I love the food presentation but the foods are quite late to arrive."
"Went here for a dinner around dusk. Mind you it's not like a typical ayam penyet or ayam gepuk restaurant that we usually find. It is more focused on the spiciness of the sambal. It's a bit raw and not all people will like the sambal, only a few segment of people will like the foods here especially the sambal. The restaurant is huge, lot of seating available. The restaurant is clean and comfy. Suitable to bring family and friends for hangout or gathering. The service is good, waiting time is not that long. The worker also nice and friendly. Well the foods I would say not everyone will like it. We do like but for me there are also other restaurants that have better taste than here without undermining the quality here. The portion is fair and the price is a bit high for me. There are a set which a bit cheaper but there were very limited customization you can made. If you are looking for a total dining experience, it is better to order separately and you can pick the different type of sambal, dishes and side according to your preference. The squid is very good for me."
"Gonna be one of my go-to restaurants if I miss Indonesian foods. They manage to maintain the authenticity of the taste (with a bit tendency to the sweeter side, perhaps to adapt to local palate) and ambiance. Although, the price is (obviously) higher here than in Indonesia. Lol. Parking is limited. There's paid parking in the TTDI market."
